With his cousin, Owen Jones (1787 — 1828), he was one of the founders of the Sunday school at Trefechan, Aberystwyth, in connection with Tabernacle chapel, and its permanent superintendent. It was at his house in Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth, that the ‘Confession of Faith of the Calvinistic Methodist Connexion’ was drawn up in March 1823. He married 8 June 1825 at S. Peter’s church, Carmarthen, Eliza, daughter of David Charles I. He died 17 May 1841, and was buried at Aberystwyth.

Of his sons, the youngest, ROBERT JOSEPH DAVIES (1839 — 1892), freeholder, born 2 August 1839 at Llanbadarn Fawr, was educated at University College, London, and the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. He married (1863), Frances, daughter of David Humphreys, Llandyfaelog, Carmarthenshire, and great-grand-daughter of Peter Williams, and spent the rest of his life at Cwrt Mawr, Llangeitho, Cardiganshire. He was appointed a J.P. (Cardiganshire) in 1870, and treasurer of the General Assembly of the Calvinistic Methodists in 1873; he devoted much of his time to the voluntary service of his connexion. He died 6 May 1892, and was buried at Llangeitho.
